Thing 16 - YouTube
I have used Youtube many times before, only for personal use only. (pre-school videos, 80's and 90's music clips)
I took a look at mainly Lending Services targeted Youtube clips and found quite a few there. Some are very amusing. I found this one below on trying to keep the silence in the library. I hope it embedded correctly.

I didn't think I'd be able to use Youtube in my work, but looking at different clips primarily on Lending Services gives me ideas on promotion etc.
Thing 15 - Slideshare and Prezi
I enjoyed looking at Slideshare and Prezi. There are some amazing presentations out there.
I'm still a very basic PowerPoint user, so what people can and have produced. Wow.
I took a look at "beautiful libraries in the World" on Slideshare, and watched a few presentations in Prezi.
The fact that people can just download and use presentations already created is a bonus for teaching or generic topics.
In my daily work, I wouldn't have a need for using either tool, but it's good to know its out there.

Thing 14 - Collaboration Tools
Today I investigated collaboration tools. I had a look at all the tools from the list, except Skype as I use that already at home. (never thought of it as a collaboration tool)
I really loved looking at Cacoo. I couldn't really use it in my daily work, but I love diagrams! Especially being able to make charts or organisational tables and get everyone to contribute. What a great idea. I could even see it as a family tree tool.
Anymeeting, was another tool that I liked the look of. I know it's designed for business, it looks a bit similar to videoconferencing on campus. I can see the personal use side there. (Bonus being free)
I am a regular user of skype, but don't want to pay the extra money for conference calls. This may look like the answer.

Thing 13
After a month's break from 23 things I'm back on the blog again!
Today I took a look at Facebook, and thankfully we can opt to not join.
I am a member of that generation who lives on Facebook, but unlike most of my friends and family haven't signed up.
I can't see yet how Facebook will affect my work directly, but it's good to have a Facebook presence for those that do use it.
I did try to look at other linked Facebook pages, but as I'm not a member it didn't let me go too far in.

Productivity Tools
I like the sound of productivity tools, who doesn't want to use their time better.
I went through and took a look at each of the different tools on offer.
I have used dropbox before, and found it a bit annoying constantly popping up when I start the PC. I ended up uninstalling it.
I have been using Google Calender for a few years now and LOVE it! I keep everything in there and able to access it anywhere. I also have shared calender access with my husband's google calender so we never double book anything, and he gets notified when someone's birthday is coming up.
I wouldn't mind giving Instapaper a go too, I never get a chance to finish articles online. I'd love to be able to go back and read them.
Doodle looks like a really good tool to use, but only with the tech savy attendees. I can't imagine my elder relatives being too impressed by receiving an invite that way.
I"ll give doodle a go in the near future.
Until next week...

Social Bookmarking
I had heard of Social bookmarking, but never knew what it was about.
Reading the 23 things explanation of being able to bookmark and not be on the same computer was a "wow" moment. I'm really behind the times!
I've got bookmarks on my work PC, home laptop and ipad. (and they are all different)
Looking forward to giving it a go.
I wouldn't really see myself sharing bookmarks with anyone in the near future, but I can see advantages for group work or recipe pages. (So no to the social aspect for now)

It took me a while to go through this week's "thing". It was easy enough to find images I like, but trying to understand all the creative commons stuff had its challenges.
I like that there is so much out there, you name the topic you'll find an image. I suppose what I don't like is you normally have to "join", some even download the app to use.
Images could be useful for library signage and small displays, but in my day to day role I doubt I'd really use many images.
